style="text-align: justify;">More New Year Changes!

Hi again!

We (that’s Sue and I) have been doing some brainstorming about what we can do to improve our selection so that you get the best from us that we can deliver, and get it efficiently as well. What we have come up with now is to move all the posts – past, present, and future – from Green Home MegaStore into the Practical Greenology site (this one) and put the Green Home MegaStore back to it’s original purpose: a Green Home Store for your use and enjoyment. It will also put Practical Greenology back where it belongs, as a first-class discussion forum for new and obscure environmental things that might otherwise go unnoticed. There may still be a few posts on GHMS, but the majority of the posts will be here – at Practical Greenology – in the future.

We will also clean up the stores and make the entire process more enjoyable for you while you’re shopping. In the somewhat more distant future, we hope to install our own products for sale in the store, in addition to the things we have from other places. We will try to keep the system as simple as possible for this as well, since there’s no reason to make anything more complicated than absolutely necessary!

Remember this theme?

By the way, did you know you can get to Practical Greenology two ways? Yes, it’s true. both http://practical-greenology.com and http://practicalgreenology.com end up at the same place. Handy in case you can’t remember whether there’s a hyphen in the name or not. ;-)

It will take us some time to get all the changes made, but we think you will enjoy having everything centralised in the future. The themes on the two sites will remain the same, except we’re trying to keep up with the changes to Suffusion (the new theme for Practical Greenology) that seem to be coming fast and furious!

→

Live Green And Save Money

Hi there!

As Practical Greenology teaches us, we all should live green and save money at the same time, and we can too. Kermit the Frog was wrong when he said, “It ain’t easy being green.” It really is easy, and highly effective too, if you know how. This article provides you with six essential steps you can start taking today to live green and save money.

Turn your heater thermostats down one or two degrees in winter, and turn your air conditioning thermostats up one or two degrees in summer. If we all did this, the combined difference would be phenomenal. We’d still feel warm in winter and cool in summer, so learn how to live green and save money with your heating and cooling appliances.

The other appliance that needs your attention is your washing machine. Start washing your clothes in cold water. Modern powders work just as efficiently in cold water as hot. Most of the energy that goes into a clothes wash is in heating up the water, so you will save on electricity, live green and save money too.

Speaking of washing machines – including dishwashers this time – don’t run the machine until you have a full load. The machines are designed to work best and most efficiently under full load conditions, and you will heat more-or-less the same amount of water for a partial load as for a full load. And as far as dishwashers are concerned, rinsing the dishes before you put them into the machine is a waste of water – probably hot water. The modern devices work just as well with dirty plates as clean ones.

When your clothes are nice and clean out of the washer, don’t throw them into the dryer. Unless it’s pouring rain, hang them out to air dry. It’s what your grandmother did, and she managed just fine. She may have liked having a dryer, but they weren’t around back then, so she just had to live green and save money. You can too!

Compact fluorescent light bulbs are a dream come true for anyone who wants to live green and save money. They burn just 25% of the electricity that a standard light bulb burns, and they can last up to 10 times longer. Change your old bulbs today!

Try to consume a little less of everything, from electricity, to gas in the car, to the food you eat. Take time to write out a shopping list, and stick to it. If you feel the impulse to buy something you don’t really need, get into the habit of waiting 24 hours, then review it. The chances are you either won’t want it any more, or you will have forgotten about it.

It’s easy to live green and save money. You just have to give it some thought. Get into a routine that works and before you know it, you will find yourself in the situation where you live green and save money every day.
<table
